GB Technique: GB 1 Fundamentals with Master Carlos Gracie Jr.

Let’s start our 2021 year of training off with the most important Fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu – as taught by the head of Gracie Barra, Master Carlos Gracie Jr. from the GB 1 Fundamentals program.

There are 2 really important aspects of the GB Fundamentals curriculum:
1- Many of the fundamental techniques of Jiu-Jitsu we find ourselves using EVERY time that we roll. Escaping bottom positions and high percentage submissions like the triangle are good examples of these fundamentals that we use constantly, regardless of our experience level.

2 – The Fundamental self-defense techniques are the very heart of Jiu-Jitsu. Sure, it’s ok to have fun exploring the sports positions and roll with our friends, but our first priority as martial artists is to know how to effectively deal with the most common self-defense scenarios.

Now let’s join Master Carlos Gracie Jr. for some GB 1 Fundamentals techniques.

1) Standing Headlock Escape by Rolling
Master Carlos Gracie Jr. shows how to deal with maybe the most common street altercation position – a standing headlock.

2) Standing closed guard pass
Master Carlos Gracie Jr. shows the best way to open the closed guard and pass

3) Collar choke from back mount.
The most effective submission from the back mount is the rear collar choke (in the gi) and Master Carlos Gracie Jr shows us how</a>

4) The collar choke from the mount
The first technique you learn and the last technique that you master

5) Clinch to body lock takedown
Master Carlos slips the punch to clinch. Rear body lock to trip takedown. This is a classic, old school Jiu-Jitsu for dealing with real-life aggressive situations.
