The mission of Gracie Barra is Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone. But what does that really mean, and how can you live out that mission in your school and in your community? We’ll explore this deeper and give you some insight into why the mission is more than just a slogan.
Starting with a Purpose
In essence, a mission statement is a vision and a statement of purpose. Included in this mission statement are critical elements. These elements have particular roles which come together to support the fulfillment of the mission.
The 3 critical elements for our mission include the following:
These three elements all reflect our core values, and are present in the foundation on which Master Carlos Gracie Jr. built Gracie Barra. He wanted to build an organization that would focus on team goals, instead of individual successes. Let’s take a closer look at each of these three elements.
One Team – Everything we do as an organization reflects on our one, single team. We value teamwork and emphasize the successes of the group over the individual successes of a few.
One Shield – We want our Instructors, athletes, and students to wear the Red Shield with pride. It is a connection to the brand, but it also helps us to unify our team and build the meaning behind it: integrity, strength, sportsmanship, courage, responsibility, and respect.
One Goal – Our central goal is Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone. We make our decisions based on this goal – to raise awareness and appreciate for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We firmly believe that the world is a better place when individuals come together and learn to implement the core values of Gracie Barra.
