Instagram and Your GB School
We know that social media is a fairly simple and inexpensive way to reach your current students, as well as spread the word about Gracie Barra to prospective students and your community. While Facebook is probably one of the more popular social media channels, we have to remember to use all of the tools at our disposal, and this means harnessing the specific power behind Instagram – a visual connection.
What is Instagram?
Instagram offers users that visual connection. This social media platform is all about the visual experience, utilizing pictures and videos to convey messages. When users create their account they have a profile and access to a newsfeed. Pictures and videos posted by users are displayed on their profile pages.
Other users can then “follow” you and they will see your posts in their own newsfeed. By this same token, photos and videos will show in your newsfeed based on who you choose to follow. One important distinction between Facebook and Instagram is that Facebook newsfeeds are based on popularity – those posts which are most popular tend to appear at the top and most frequently – while on the other hand, Instagram posts in real-time.
Instagram is free and can be used on the following devices and platforms:
- iOS phones and devices
- Android phones and devices
- Windows phones and devices
- A computer with internet access
It is important to know that while you can see your Instagram account (and newsfeeds of others) from your computer or laptop, you can only upload and share pictures and videos from your device (phone).
What Are the Benefits of Using Instagram?
There tend to be two main benefits of Instagram, especially when compared with other social media channels.
