GB Technique : Submissions with Philipe Della Monica
This week on Gracie Barra Blog we are looking at some submissions by Gracie Barra HQ head instructor Prof. Philipe Della Monica
Prof. Philipe is head instructor at Gracie Barra HQ in Irvine, California for good reason: in addition to having been an active competitor at the international level he is a very detailed instructor as well. One thing that sets the teaching of Prof. Philipe apart is that he can provide important details on those techniques that you may already know – to bring your triangle or armbar up to a higher level.
Let’s take a look at some submissions with one of the top Gracie Barra black belt instructors, Prof Philipe Della Monica.
1) Double Attack from the Mount
This situation the opponent is defending very strongly by clinching his arms. Prof. Philipe shows how to break the grip and attack the opponent’s shoulder.
2) Armbar from The Guard
Prof Philipe teaches a few tips on pulling guard to get the fight to the ground and finish with a straight armbar.
3) Kimura from Half Guard
Notice the detail of how Prof. Philipe switches his half guard leg triangle to finish the Kimura lock
4) Collar Choke From Back Control
In this variation of the sliding collar choke from the back mount, you can finish the choke with only 1 arm (a variation of the RNC)
5) Triangle Choke from Armbar
Black belts have the ability to transition from one submission attack to another when the opponent sets up a strong defense. let’s see how Prof. Philipe sets up a triangle from a stalled armbar.
