GB Whistler Canada

Gracie Barra’s New Official School in Canada

Coach Cole Drago was born a martial artist. In his young age, he has embraced the art of fighting and eventually finding his interest with the gentle art. This eventually lead him to becoming one of the school owners who is spreading Jiu-Jitsu to the Great White North.

IMG_6842“I began my martial arts path at age 5 in Taekwondo, receiving my first of 5 black belts at age of 9. At age 10 I found Kung Fu. Age 16 is when I found Hapkido which had some joint locks and throws. This is how I found an interest in the gentle art.”

The school sporting a wide array of programs for the locals of Whistler. From its humble beginnings back in 2012,  the school now  offers varied martial arts to suit the varied tastes of each student.

“We now offer 10 classes within 5 days per week of GB adult fundamental and advanced classes and the future champion program for kids. To compliment our bjj we have Filipino Yaw Yan kickboxing (also known as “Sayaw ng Kamatayan”, or the Dance of Death), Combat Systema self defense. Capoiera, Zumba fitness, and Bellyfit to give members the option for a fun workout with music and dance. To top it off we also offer restorative Yin Yoga and Registered Massage therapy from inside our healing center,” he mentions.

Bullying, Women’s Program and His Personal Philosophy

Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone. Women and kid’s programs are a huge part of the school. The school has their own pink team which has started representing GB Whistler in local BJJ tourneys.

“We had 10 kids sign up on our first official day for GB bjj classes and the community is very happy to learn that we offer an anti-bullying program!” he tells graciebarra.com

On a personal note, he shares with us his idea on getting everyone in BJJ. “There is always a way to make it possible for everyone to experience some kind of benefit from Jiu-Jitsu,” he says.
