GB Technique: Connecting Open Guards

This week on GB Technique, we are going to look at how different open guard positions are connected to defend standing guard passers and ultimately get the sweep.

The Butterfly guard, Single Leg-X, and full X-Guards are so connected, that when you start to use one, you will constantly be switching to and using the other.
Let’s take a look at how some of Gracie Barra’s top instructors connect these 2 X-guard positions.
1- Pulling to Single Leg-X to X-Guard
Prof. Rodrigo Fajardo starts standing and pulls guard so as to start in the position he wants
2- Butterfly to X-GUARD pt. 1
Prof. Marcio connects his Butterfly guard with the X-guard when the opponent posts a leg to thwart his initial attack
3- Butterfly to X-GUARD pt. 2
