When most Gracie Barra students think of the Top Mount, they think of the basic high mount. But there are other variations of the mount just like there are variations of Side Mount. Each mount has its particular strength. Let’s take a look at the different styles of Top Mount by some of Gracie Barra’s top instructors.
1- Basic high mount
Prof. Braulio Estima shows us how we can attack the collar choke from the basic Top Mount position. Starts at 4:30
2- Mounted sliding collar choke from Technical Mount
Master Carlos Gracie Jr transitions to a 1 foot up “Technical” mount when the opponent turns into their side and hunts for the collar.
S-Mount Arm Bar
Prof. Philipe DellaMonica demonstrates the straight armbar from the S-Mount. Most armbars will come from the control afforded by a high S-Mount.
Arm Triangle Choke from Low Mount
Prof. Philipe Della Monica shows the step by step to get the kata gatame from a Low Mount – where your hips are pressuring your opponent’s hips.
