The Day to be Grateful!

If you’ve noticed, your Jiu-Jitsu is always better when you are in the right mood. Why is it so? A good mood creates better posture, and better posture creates a good mood.

Now, let’s talk about how you perceive your environment. But before we proceed, let’s try this experience. Let’s do a self-assessment, go back to the time when positive moodsomebody cut in line after bumping you.  Now also, go back to the time when somebody cut you in traffic or the last time that you blew that horn so loud.

We are not going to check in on the feeling of why you did it, but the feeling that you were able to garner afterwards.

So how did you feel after? How did your mood change exactly from neutral, or happy, to irritated and pissed? Moods can change you and get you off balance. Will it also affect your performance on the mats? Yes it will. Mood changes quickly, and your mood can change if a stimuli that is undesirable clashes to your principles. Moodiness is a habit. It’s your brain shifting from one mood to another simply because a stimuli passes for as a great one to alter it. Our moodiness can affect our habits, which leads to behaviors.

Changing of moods also changes the way you see the world.

We also have evidence that a bad mood changes the way you view the world. In a 2009 study published in the Journal of Neuroscience, researchers found that being in a bad mood gives you a sense of tunnel vision and narrows your field of vision. For day Two, let’s focus on being grateful to counter the mood. Gratefulness is a very powerful, positive feeling. It will widen your perspective.

Now for today’s activity, I want you to think of 3 things that you are grateful about. Say one thing that you were grateful about yesterday, And say two things that are grateful about today. List them down in the notes of your smart phone, or post it in Facebook. Anywhere to anything that can remind you of what you can be grateful about. Take time to thank your professors for the support that they are doing. Take time to be the person to change someone else’s mood. Today, take the time to be grateful for what you have and what you are about to receive.
