21 Days to Better Jiu-Jitsu Habits – Day 5
Let’s Talk Food
Our bodies are like engines. Its performance not only relies in its design and structure, but also in the fuel that it uses. High performance cars rely on nothing but the best type of fuel. There is no exemption to it. The best fuel will equal high performance. It’s that simple.
With this analogy, I want you to look at the way that you are eating now.
List the foods that you typically eat. Remember, for this to work, you have to be very honest. The road to creating great eating habits starts when we begin to admit that we have habits that we need to change.
You need to specifically jot down the names of the foods you eat, how much of these do you consume in one sitting, on a day, and on a weekly basis.
Review the foods on the list. Review it well. It would help if you’ll log in online and check the nutrients. We are not going on a diet. We are simply tweaking what you put in your body. Research says 80% of the food being sold is unhealthy food. Our cravings for grease-fried, salty, and chemically-enhanced is just astounding.
Breaking the food habit is a tough habit to break. Even I have failed numerously in doing a check-in on what I have been eating.
Here’s what I did.
After listing the foods down on a piece of paper, I started to think on what it does to my body. So I went online and checked out some medical cases for stroke, diabetes, cancer, heart failures, etc.
From what I reckoned, I found out that I may feel healthy now, but I really am not. The unhealthy foods that we eat can take its toll on my body years from now. The tough choice to change my eating habits had to happen.
Find an Alternative
The easiest way to change a bad eating habit is through alternative choices. There are a lot of alternatives. Soda with fresh juice (or better yet, water), swap sweets with fruits, swap donuts with peanut butter and jelly. The choice is virtually endless.
Reduce Intake
Food is addictive. Breaking eating habits is tough. You may need to wean off of it. Try to alter your eating habits as slow as possible. This will help you adapt to what you want to eat.
