GB Technique : Gracie Barra Women Instructors

This week on Gracie Barra Blog we are doing something a little special – all of our techniques are taught by Gracie Barra women instructors.

Gracie Barra’s Women’s program combines a comprehensive self-defense curriculum with the sport aspects of jiu-jitsu. It is great to see the growth in interest in women’s jiu-jitsu and these Gracie Barra instructors are leading the numbers of women learning and enjoying jiu-jitsu around the world.

Let’s take a look at some techniques with one of the top female Gracie Barra black belt instructors.

1) Spider Guard sweep / Raspagem partindo da Guarda Aranha

Smaller, lighter jiu-jitsu athletes tend to have solid guard games. Prof. Vanessa Silva shows how to use the Lasso Hook to sweep the opponent.

2) Spider Guard Pass with Caroline Gracie

Coach Caroline shows a great technique to break your opponent’s Spider Guard grips and pass the guard.

3) Passing From Half Guard with Professor Fabiana Borges

Pay close attention to the black belt detail by Prof. Fabiana where she uses her bottom knee as a wedge to free the trapped leg.

4) Half Guard Sweep / Raspagem partindo da Meia Guarda

The knee shield half guard is a great position for a smaller fighter to keep the opponent’s weight off of them. Prof. Ana Pinho shows us how to use the opponent’s reaction to make them easier to sweep from half guard.

5) Half guard pass to take the back / Transição da passagem de meia guarda para as costas

Prof. Vanessa Silva trains at Gracie Barra Matriz in Brazil and shares a way to catch the opponent’s back after freeing the leg from half guard.
