GB Technique : Attacks from Bottom Side Control
This week on Gracie Barra Blog we are looking at something that is definitely “outside of the box” when it comes to jiu-jitsu common practice…attacking from underneath your opponent’s side control.
“100 Quilos” is the term often used in Brazil – describing the feeling of having a 100 kilogram opponent applying his weight on your chest.
Most commonly, jiu-jitsu fighters will seek to replace the guard or go to turtle. And these are great strategies for sure.
And now for something completely different…
Submission attacks from BOTTOM of side control.
Submit your opponent from UNDER side control?
Yes!
Let’s take a look at some of these unusual attacks with some of the top Gracie Barra black belt instructors.
1) Americana counter to Americana / Americana com capotagem contra atacando com Americana
I have used this sneaky move to surprise more than one opponent from the bottom of side control. Prof. Carlos Liberi shows us how.
2)Finish from Side Control bottom / Finalização Partindo dos 100 Quilos #1
Prof. Braulio Estima uses a tricky leg entanglement to control his unsuspecting opponent’s arm and get the tap.
3) Finish from Side Control bottom / Finalização Partindo dos 100 Quilos #2
Prof. Braulio is famous for setting up his inverted triangle from different bottom positions. Give this move a try!
