2 Points For The Sweep!

Many jiu-jitsu matches are decided by the 2 points for a sweep. One of the lesser appreciated values of the sweep is that while it might be very difficult to get a takedown on an opponent who has solid wrestling, a well timed sweep can get you to a dominant position.

This week GB Blog brings you some of the most effective ways to get that valuable 2 points for the sweep!

1) Flower Sweep from closed guard
This sweep is a great technique to learn early on your training as it teaches fundamental hip movement and skill of unbalancing the opponent.

2) De la Riva Guard
One of my black belt instructor friends calls this the 1st sweep you should learn from De la Riva guard.

3) Deep Half guard sweep
Some smaller jiu-jitsu players love this position as they feel they can effectively undermine the base of a heavier opponent.

4) Advanced b Half Guard reversal
Does this sweep work? Yes it does! One of my black belt friends did it twice on me the last time we rolled!
