Teamwork. The Business Dictionary defines teamwork as the process of working collaboratively with a group of people to achieve a goal. At Gracie Barra we might consider the ultimate goal to be our mission, Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone. In fact, the notion of working together for the good of the team is the very undercurrent of our policies, procedures, and guidelines we have to live out our mission.

Master Carlos Gracie Jr. once again provides us with a motto by which to help build our schools and lead successful lives.

Working as a team happens by design – not by accident.

Rules, policies, and guidelines, in fact, are essential for any efforts by teams to reach goals. This is why we have a system put in place to address all of these – we want to give you the tools you need to thrive as a team.

A Team without Rules

Sure – you might think that rules are constraints on your creativity or restrictions on your efforts. However, a look at real-world situations and organizations clearly shows us that a lack of rules and regulations equals the absence of a framework and measures for success.

In order to better understand just how important rules are to success, let’s consider some scenarios where teams work without rules. You’ll see that a team without rules to follow cannot end in a successful completion of the goals (unless, perhaps, the goal is chaos).
