I did not discover Martial Arts until later in life. I walked into an academy to support a friend who was trying martial arts in 2010 and never looked back. In the spring of 2014, I tried Jiu-Jitsu for the first time and immediately was hooked. I could feel how empowering it could be for my smaller body type. I found Jiu-Jitsu allowed me to use my natural attributes of flexibility and agility to handle much larger and stronger people. Being smaller became an advantage, not a disadvantage. On a Jiu-Jitsu retreat in 2016, I was encouraged to find a Professor of like mind and philosophy. I met with and trained with many well respected Black Belts but had an immediate connection with Professor Carlos. I also teach and assist in the Little Champions and Junior/ Teens Program.
Adding in Program Director responsibilities was natural as I had years of marketing experience and running my own business. My goal is to help make Gracie Barra North Babylon the most successful Jiu-Jitsu academy in our area without ever losing the personal connection that made me want to join on my first day.
In her free time, you will find Tara on the beach or wishing she was on the beach.
