Week 14 Self Defense

Self Defense

Self Defense for Week 14, Coach Todd and Coach Val demonstrate a defense from a driving front choke. This is a common attack one might experience, especially in a bar or club setting.

The attacker, Coach Todd, drives Coach Val backward while holding both hand against her throat. The first thing Coach Val does is to take a step back. She does this to stabilize herself and stop the attacker from driving her further back. Next one of her arms moves across both of his arms at the wrist. Coach Val’s free hand comes over and clamps down both of his arms. From this point she elbows Coach Todd in the face, causing some damage, while she weaves a hand underneath one of his arms.

Coach Val is now in a great position to deliver 3 knees to his groin. The attacker will most likely be disoriented, which makes bringing him to the ground easier. Coach Val does this by placing a hand on the back of his neck, pushing him down, while lifting the other arm up, taking him down to the ground. Coach Val finishes off the technique with a wrist lock.

At this time, Coach Val is able to get away from her attacker or at least subdue him for the time being. This is a great technique for women because it does not use a lot of “brute strength”. This is also a great technique for law enforcement when dealing with an uncooperative person.

Coach Todd is a certified Police Officer weaponless defense and weapons instructor, through the California Department of justice. He has taught countless amount of Police Officers techniques like this.
