Born in Alabama. Moved to Arizona 1975.
Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Arizona.
Started Jiu-Jitsu at age 58 as a founding student at GB Peoria 10 years ago.
Received Black Belt at 67 under Professor Michael Bruner.
Began coaching 8 years ago when my granddaughter started training.
For me it was a double win—getting on the mats and getting to train with family.
While mobility was a huge part of my original why, over time it became the community I found, grounded in the Gracie Barra core principles:
Brotherhood. Integrity. Development.
I made GBAnthem my home after receiving my black belt this year.
Training and coaching alongside Professor Nivian and Coach Adrian is a true privilege. They represent exactly what I want to be part of.
I have done 5 competitions. One every year since 2021.
4 losses. 1 win.
Trust me when I say I learned more from the losses.
Losing feels like winning when you learn to fight for yourself—it’s the place you see what your training has built and where you still need to grow.
I love jiu-jitsu.
I love the community, the structure, and the foundation of safety.
(And the air conditioning—I’m an Arizona hiker who really appreciates an indoor sport.)
Making jiu-jitsu safe, accessible, and adaptive for everyone is my biggest draw to coaching—especially for those who never thought they were “cut out” for a sport and don’t consider themselves athletes.
