By completing registration and ticking the waiver checkbox, you agree to the terms below.

1) Who is agreeing to this waiver

This waiver is agreed by the person completing registration, who confirms they are either:

  • the parent/legal guardian of the participant (where the participant is under 18), with authority to give this consent; or

  • the participant (where the participant is 18 years or older).

2) Activities covered

The Camp may include (without limitation):

  • BJJ technique and drilling

  • supervised sparring/rolling

  • takedowns / stand-up grappling

  • strength and conditioning activities

  • competition-style matches / mock competition rounds

  • offsite movement during lunch breaks only if permitted by the parent/guardian (see section 8)

3) Important risk warning (contact sport)

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and related training are contact activities and involve inherent risks, including serious injury. Risks may include (without limitation):

  • sprains/strains, bruising, cuts and abrasions

  • fractures and dislocations

  • concussion or other head injury

  • choking-related discomfort or injury

  • aggravation of pre-existing injuries

  • illness, including communicable diseases (e.g., colds/flu/COVID)

  • loss of or damage to personal property

4) Assumption of risk

You understand and accept that:

  • participation is voluntary; and

  • not all risks can be eliminated even with supervision and safety rules; and

  • the participant accepts and assumes the inherent risks of participating in the Camp, including risks arising from physical contact with other participants.

5) Fitness to participate

You confirm the participant is physically and medically fit to participate. You agree to disclose any relevant information that may affect safe participation (for example injuries, medical conditions, recent concussion, asthma, allergies, or medications) to the Promoter as soon as practicable.

6) Camp rules and safety directions

You agree the participant will follow all reasonable directions given by coaches and staff (including safety rules, pairing decisions, and instructions to stop). The Promoter may remove the participant from an activity or the Camp if required for safety or behaviour reasons.

7) Medical consent (first aid, ambulance and treatment)

If the participant requires first aid or medical treatment, you authorise the Promoter, its staff and contractors to:

  • provide basic first aid;

  • call an ambulance; and

  • arrange medical assessment and treatment (including at a hospital) as reasonably necessary.

You understand you are responsible for costs associated with ambulance and medical treatment (unless covered by Medicare, private health insurance, or other insurance). The Promoter will make reasonable efforts to contact the parent/guardian as soon as practicable.

8) Offsite movement during lunch breaks

During lunch breaks, participants may leave the premises only if:

  • the parent/guardian has given permission; and

  • the participant is in the direct care of their parent/guardian, or another adult authorised in writing by the parent/guardian.

Unless the Promoter confirms in writing otherwise, the Promoter does not supervise participants offsite during lunch breaks.

9) Personal property

Personal property brought to the Camp (including phones, jewellery and valuables) is the participant’s responsibility. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Promoter is not responsible for loss, theft or damage to personal property.

10) Communicable disease acknowledgment

You acknowledge the risk of exposure to communicable diseases when participating in group sport. You agree the participant will not attend if they are unwell or have symptoms that make attendance unsafe for others.

11) Limitation of liability (important)

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you release and indemnify the Promoter and its directors, staff, contractors and agents from and against any claims, loss, damage, liability, cost or expense arising from participation in the Camp, including injury, illness, death, property loss/damage, and travel to/from the venue.

Nothing in this waiver excludes, restricts or modifies any rights or remedies under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that cannot legally be excluded.

12) Governing law

This waiver is governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
