5 Reasons Why You Should Start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Reasons to learn – and love – BJJ with Gracie Barra Ahwatukee

Starting something new is never an easy task. Especially when that thing is a sport, more specifically a martial art. Fears and doubts can go through our minds and if we let these thoughts stick in our heads for too long we might not even try it. So to help you with this task, here are 5 Reasons Why You Should Train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu:

  • It’s proven to be the most efficient Self-Defense Martial Art

If you pay attention to Martial Arts world scenario, most of them teach you striking moves as Self-Defense. With Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, there is almost no need of exchanging punches and kicks to protect yourself from an aggressor. In reality, the biggest use of striking moves is to manage the distance so you don’t get hit and remove the distance right after. When you are really close to the aggressor, you have a lot of control, and they don’t show any harm to you.

  • It’s a GREAT workout

While training Jiu-Jitsu, you get to burn an average of 700 kcal per class! And the best part is: you don’t even feel it! You’re constantly doing squats, push ups, making grips, while you apply the techniques. It helps in your coordination, balance and strength, and it’s a great ally if your goal is loosing weight.

  • It’s a Self Discovering Adventure

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a great way to find out a lot about yourself. When you know about all your failures and qualities, you can be proud of what you’re good at, and you can put energy and work on what you think it can be better about yourself. In the end of the day, you don’t learn just the best martial art in the world when you train BJJ. You learn how to be better in every aspect of your life when you apply the lessons learned on the mats to your routine. With Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, everyday you become the best version of yourself.

  • It’s the Best Martial Art

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the best Martial Art in the whole world. It has been proven over the years, in many different events. In the early 50’s it was really common to see the Gracie Family putting ads on newspapers challenging whoever thought their own Martial Art was better than BJJ. Everyone who accepted the challenge was easily dominated and proved wrong. This was the scenario until the early 90’s, when there was the need of spreading BJJ outside of Brazil, and proving to the world that Jiu-Jitsu is the best Martial Art. This is one of the reasons why UFC (the biggest event of MMA nowadays) was created: to prove the superiority of Jiu-Jitsu over any other Martial Art. And it worked! Royce Gracie won the UFC 1 winning all his matches by submission against high level martial artists.
