Professor Carlos Schiezaro receives his 2nd degree black belt at Gracie Barra Artarmon

The Gracie Barra Oceania family came together last Saturday, 6 December 2025, for a very special GB Awards Night — a celebration of achievement, discipline, and the continued growth of our community. One of the most memorable moments of the evening was seeing Professor Carlos Schiezaro receive his 2nd degree on his black belt, a milestone that represents years of dedication to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, leadership on the mats, and commitment to the values of Gracie Barra.

At Gracie Barra Artarmon, every belt and every stripe tells a story. But a black belt degree is something unique — it symbolises not only technical excellence but the countless hours spent teaching, guiding, and inspiring students across all levels. Professor Carlos has been a central pillar of our school, helping shape the culture that makes Gracie Barra a place of Brotherhood, Integrity, and personal Development.

The atmosphere during the Awards Night was full of energy as students, families, and coaches gathered to recognise the hard work displayed throughout the year. For many, witnessing Professor Carlos receive his 2nd degree was a reminder of what long-term dedication to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu looks like. It highlighted how BJJ is more than a martial art — it's a lifestyle that transforms the way we move, think, and overcome challenges.

This achievement also reflects the growth of Gracie Barra Artarmon and the strong leadership that continues to elevate our school. Under Professor Carlos’ guidance, students of all ages — from kids beginning their Martial Arts journey to adults diving into BJJ for fitness, discipline, and self defence — benefit from an environment built on respect and support.

For our younger members, seeing their professor achieve such a milestone is incredibly motivating. It shows that discipline and consistency lead to meaningful accomplishments, both on and off the mats. For adult students, it’s a reminder that training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Artarmon is not simply about techniques — it's about improving your life, developing resilience, and becoming part of something bigger.

As we close out another strong year for our school, we are honoured to celebrate Professor Carlos ongoing contributions and example. His 2nd degree represents decades of commitment to the art and to the growth of the Gracie Barra community in Artarmon.

From everyone at Gracie Barra Artarmon, congratulations Professor Carlos — thank you for inspiring us daily and for guiding our team with passion and integrity. We look forward to many more years of learning under your leadership.
