More Than Medals: A Weekend of Growth, Teamwork and Community at the NSW CompNet Championships

Kids and adults from Gracie Barra Artarmon competing at the NSW CompNet State Championships

Last weekend, our Gracie Barra Artarmon family proudly took to the mats at the NSW CompNet State Championships, with both our Kids and Adults teams representing the academy with incredible determination, respect and team spirit.

While we are extremely proud of the fantastic results achieved throughout the day, what made the event truly special wasn't measured by medals alone.

It was measured by the courage to step onto the competition mats, the friendships strengthened throughout the day, and the incredible support shown by teammates, families and coaches from beginning to end.

At Gracie Barra, competition is not simply about winning. It is about becoming a better version of yourself.

Every Competitor Was Already a Winner

For many of our students, especially those competing for the first time, simply walking onto the competition area required enormous courage.

Preparing for a competition means weeks of consistent training, learning to manage nerves and challenging yourself outside your comfort zone.

Whether our students stood on the podium or not, every single competitor achieved something far more important — personal growth.

They demonstrated resilience, commitment and the willingness to keep learning.

These are lessons that extend well beyond Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and into everyday life.

A Community That Shows Up for Each Other

One of the most inspiring parts of the day wasn't just what happened on the competition mats.

It was what happened around them.

Parents, siblings, teammates and friends spent the day cheering, encouraging and celebrating one another.

The atmosphere perfectly reflected what we work hard to build every day at Gracie Barra Artarmon — a community where every student feels supported.

Whether someone won their division, faced a difficult match or competed for the very first time, they were never alone.

Every match was met with encouragement from the sidelines, celebrating effort just as much as the result.

Growth Through Challenge

Competition provides an opportunity to discover strengths that often remain hidden during everyday life.

It teaches students how to:

  • Stay calm under pressure
  • Respect their opponents
  • Learn from both victories and setbacks
  • Continue improving with humility

These experiences help children and adults develop confidence that extends far beyond the academy.

At Gracie Barra Artarmon, we believe these lessons are some of the greatest rewards of competition.

A Proud Moment for Our Kids and Adults Team

Seeing our Kids and Adults teams competing together made the weekend even more meaningful.

Our younger students had the opportunity to watch older teammates compete with determination and sportsmanship, while our adult students proudly supported the next generation of Gracie Barra athletes.

These shared experiences strengthen the bonds within our academy and remind us that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a lifelong journey.

From our youngest students to our adult competitors, everyone contributed to making the day unforgettable.

Congratulations to Our Entire Team

To every student who competed:

Congratulations.

Your hard work, discipline and courage made our entire academy proud.

To every parent who spent the day supporting from the sidelines, thank you for believing in your children and being part of their journey.

To every teammate who cheered, coached, celebrated victories and lifted each other after difficult matches, thank you for showing what the Gracie Barra spirit truly represents.

This is what makes our academy special.

More Than Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Events like the NSW CompNet State Championships remind us that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is about much more than learning techniques.

It is about building:

  • Confidence
  • Resilience
  • Respect
  • Leadership
  • Lifelong friendships
  • A stronger community

These are the values we strive to develop every day at Gracie Barra Artarmon.

Thank You, Team Gracie Barra Artarmon

To everyone who represented our academy, travelled with us, supported from the sidelines or celebrated together afterwards, thank you.

Together, we continue to build something far greater than champions.

We are building a community where people support one another, grow together and become stronger both on and off the mats.

Congratulations to our entire Gracie Barra Artarmon family. We cannot wait for the next challenge together.
