Do I need to be fit before starting BJJ?

No. You don’t need to be fit to begin.

What should I expect in my first class?

At Gracie Barra Artarmon, all kids classes are taught by experienced, Working With Children Check certified coaches in a supervised, structured environment.


What age can kids start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Children can start our Gracie Barra Kids (GBK) program from around 3 years old. Classes are age-appropriate, fun, and focused on building confidence, coordination, and discipline. We also run a Parents & Tiny Champions (3-year-olds and 4-year-olds) class for younger children training alongside a parent.


How often should I train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Most beginners train 2–3 times per week to build consistency and progress.


Do I need a uniform to start?

For your first class, we will provide a Gi (Uniform) for you to use; you just need to wear a comfortable t-shirt under it.

Once you decide to continue, we’ll guide you on getting your first Gi (uniform). No special equipment is needed for your first session.


Can adults start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at any age?

Yes. Many adults start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in their 30s, 40s and beyond.

Classes are designed for all fitness levels, ages, and experience.


Where is Gracie Barra Artarmon located?

We are located at Unit 8/82 Reserve Road, Artarmon NSW 2064 — right in the heart of Artarmon on Sydney’s North Shore. We’re easy to reach from Chatswood, Lane Cove, Crows Nest, Willoughby, and North Sydney. We have plenty of parking available nearby.
