What “Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone” Means

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about starting your Jiu-Jitsu journey.

What should I bring to my first class?

For your first class, wear comfortable athletic clothing (t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants). Bring a water bottle and arrive 15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork. We’ll provide everything else you need, including information about obtaining your Gracie Barra uniform (Gi).

Do I need any prior experience?

Absolutely not! Our GB1 Fundamentals program is specifically designed for beginners with no prior martial arts experience. Our structured curriculum and experienced instructors will guide you step-by-step from day one. “Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone” is not just our motto—it’s our promise.

What ages do you teach?

We offer programs for all ages, starting from 3 years old through adults. Our Gracie Barra Kids (GBK) program serves children aged 3-17 with age-appropriate classes. We also have specialized programs for women (GBF) and various skill levels for adults (GB1, GB2, GB3).

How often should I train?

We recommend training 2-3 times per week to see consistent progress in your technique, fitness, and confidence. However, we offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your lifestyle. Some students train 4-5 times per week, while others start with once per week—you decide what works best for you.

Is Jiu-Jitsu safe for beginners?

Yes! Safety is our top priority. Our instructors are certified in the Gracie Barra curriculum and emphasize proper technique and controlled training. We use a structured approach that teaches you how to train safely from your very first class. Our clean, well-maintained 220 sqm facility is designed with your safety and comfort in mind.

What makes Gracie Barra different?

As part of the world’s largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu organization with over 1,100 schools in 60+ countries, Gracie Barra offers a proven, standardized curriculum developed over decades. Our philosophy of Brotherhood, Integrity, and Development creates a welcoming family atmosphere where students support each other’s growth.
