The Gracie Barra World Summit 2026 marked a historic milestone for the global Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community as Gracie Barra celebrated 40 years of legacy, leadership, and connection.

Held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil — in Barra da Tijuca, where the very first Gracie Barra school was founded — the four-day event brought together instructors, black belts, school owners, students, and leaders from around the world. For the Gracie Barra Sydney community in Frenchs Forest, it was an unforgettable opportunity to reconnect with the roots of Gracie Barra and celebrate the future of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Representatives from across Oceania attended the Summit, including teams from GB Headquarters Sydney, GB Bondi, GB Surfers Paradise, GB Charlestown, GB Newcastle, GB Mount Lawley, GB Capalaba, GB Menai, and GB Tauriko in New Zealand, alongside the teams from GB Oceania and GB Wear Australia.

The region was proudly represented under the leadership of Professor Marcelo Rezende, Gracie Barra Oceania Regional Leader, whose work continues to strengthen the growth and connection of the GB community across Australia and New Zealand.

Leadership Beyond the Mats

The Summit began with Leadership Day, focused on personal development, emotional courage, and strengthening the Gracie Barra culture for future generations.

Through structured conversations, group activities, and leadership reflections, participants connected with members from across the global GB community. The sessions highlighted the importance of leadership responsibility, human connection, and preserving the values that define Gracie Barra.

For the Gracie Barra Sydney team, the experience reinforced that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu extends far beyond physical training. Leadership, Discipline, and community remain at the heart of everything taught both on and off the mats.

Reflecting on 40 Years of Gracie Barra

Legacy Day explored the incredible journey of Gracie Barra over the past four decades.

Led by Grand Master Carlos Gracie Jr. alongside members of the Gracie Barra leadership board, the sessions revisited the origins of Gracie Barra in Barra da Tijuca and reflected on how the organisation grew into a worldwide Martial Arts community with more than 1,200 schools globally.

Throughout the day, participants explored the meaning of carrying the Gracie Barra legacy through everyday actions, leadership, and commitment to the GB values.

One of the most powerful sessions, “The Black Belt – Perpetuating the GB Legacy”, featuring Professor Marcelo Rezende, highlighted that earning a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu represents not only technical achievement, but also responsibility, service, and leadership.

Historic Graduations and Jiu-Jitsu Celebration

Saturday’s Jiu-Jitsu Day brought everyone onto the mats wearing the GB Kimono for a full day of training, technical instruction, storytelling, and reflection on the Gracie Barra methodology.

The event reinforced the philosophy of “Complete Jiu-Jitsu” — combining technique, Discipline, mindset, and personal development.

One of the most emotional moments of the entire Summit was the graduation of Mestre Carlos Gracie Jr. to the Red Belt, recognising a lifetime dedicated to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and to building Gracie Barra into a global movement.

The Oceania community also celebrated several important graduations:

  • Professor Giuliana Kleina (Gracie Barra Headquarters Sydney) – Black Belt
  • Professor Perry Cooper (Gracie Barra Surfers Paradise) – Black Belt
  • Professor Natasha Franks (Gracie Barra Surfers Paradise) – Black Belt
  • Professor Trisha Dhillon (Gracie Barra Headquarters Sydney) – Black Belt

For Gracie Barra Sydney in Frenchs Forest, seeing Oceania leaders recognised on the world stage was an incredibly proud moment and a reflection of years of dedication, Discipline, and service to the GB community.

Celebrating the Future of Gracie Barra

The final day of the Summit combined celebration, training, and competition.

Members trained with Grand Master Carlos Gracie Jr. as a Red Belt before gathering for the official World Summit group photo — a powerful symbol of unity across generations and countries.

The CompNet Super Fights also showcased elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu performances, with Professor Roan Theron from Gracie Barra Capalaba earning a submission victory and proudly representing the Oceania region.

The Summit concluded with the official 40th Anniversary Celebration Party, honouring the people, friendships, and shared journey that helped carry Gracie Barra from Barra da Tijuca to communities all around the world.

For Gracie Barra Sydney in Frenchs Forest, the World Summit 2026 was a reminder that every class, every student, and every moment on the mats contributes to a much bigger legacy built on Brotherhood, Integrity, and Development.

Whether through Martial Arts for Kids, Adults BJJ Classes, Self Defence, or Fitness, Gracie Barra continues to impact lives through the power of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
