25 Years in Australia: A Gracie Barra Oceania Journey
This month marks a special milestone for Gracie Barra Sydney in Frenchs Forest and the wider Gracie Barra Oceania community—25 years since Professor Marcelo arrived in Australia.
What began as a short adventure became a lifelong journey.
Arriving with just a backpack and planning to stay for four months, the future was uncertain. Through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, that journey grew into something far greater.
“What started as a short adventure became a lifetime journey.”
Today, Professor Marcelo leads Gracie Barra Oceania and is the owner of Gracie Barra Sydney in Frenchs Forest, playing an important role in the growth of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu across the region.
Over the past 25 years, BJJ has continued to grow throughout Australia, helping thousands of students discover the benefits of Martial Arts, including Self Defence, Fitness, Discipline, and personal development.
At Gracie Barra Sydney in Frenchs Forest, that impact can be seen every day.
Through Adults BJJ classes, students build confidence, resilience, and strong connections. Through Martial Arts for Kids, younger students develop focus, respect, and important life skills in a structured and supportive environment.
More than just training, Gracie Barra represents a true community.
“Through Jiu-Jitsu, I built a life, a family, and a community that I’m incredibly grateful for.”
This milestone is not only a celebration of time, but of impact. From one journey that began 25 years ago, a strong and united Gracie Barra Oceania community has grown.
“Thank you to everyone who has been part of this path. The journey continues.”
Today, Gracie Barra Sydney in Frenchs Forest continues to welcome new students looking to improve their Fitness, learn Self Defence, and be part of a supportive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community.
