Coach Shaun Vanover
Assistant Instructor
Purple Belt
Born and raised with a military family, Coach Shaun was fortunate to see many places and experience many cultures. He spent most of his youth in Ft. Leonard Wood area where he enjoyed playing Basketball and practicing Taekwondo. After graduating from Waynesville High School, Coach Shaun moved to Portland Or. where he worked and learned construction trades from his brother in law. When it wasn’t raining, he spent most of his weekends Snowboarding and hiking. After 4 years of being home sick he moved back to Jefferson City where he started a construction company and met the love of his life.
Coach Shaun has been a resident of JCMO for 16 years where his family has decided to stay to raise their 3 boys. Knowing how martial arts had such a positive effect on his childhood, he wanted to introduce it to his boys as well. After earning a black belt in Taekwondo, and training mixed martial arts, he was introduced to Brazilian Jiu jitsu. Shortly after, Gracie Barra opened a school in Jefferson City where he was eager to train and learn. 3 1/2 years later all 3 of his sons are still training and love every time they go to class.
The rewards to his family from jiu jitsu have inspired him to complete the Gracie Barra ICP Certification and coach, to share the benefits to others, through Gracie Barra.
