Black Belt Day 2026: A Celebration of Commitment
On Sunday, 22 March, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm AEDT, the Gracie Barra community will come together for one of the most meaningful events on our calendar — Gracie Barra Oceania Black Belt Day, hosted at Gracie Barra Frenchs Forest, our Headquarters in Sydney.
Black Belt Day is a powerful celebration of everything Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu represents: dedication, discipline, resilience and lifelong development. It is more than a ceremony — it is a reflection of the values that define Gracie Barra: Brotherhood, Integrity and Development.
A Celebration of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Frenchs Forest
This special event will begin with an exclusive one-hour sparring session for Black Belts and Brown Belts. This high-level training represents the technical excellence and leadership standards upheld across Gracie Barra Oceania.
Following this, the mats will open for a one-hour all-levels sparring session, welcoming students from across our schools. From beginners taking their first steps in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to advanced practitioners refining their craft, this session represents what makes Gracie Barra Frenchs Forest unique — unity through training.
Whether your goal is Self Defence, improved Fitness, greater Discipline, or progression through our Adults BJJ classes and Martial Arts for Kids programs, Black Belt Day showcases the long-term pathway available within our Martial Arts community.
Honouring the Journey to Black Belt
The highlight of the afternoon will be the official Black Belt promotions.
Achieving a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most respected accomplishments in Martial Arts. It represents years of consistency, perseverance and personal growth. At Gracie Barra Frenchs Forest, a Black Belt symbolises not only technical ability but leadership, character and commitment to the team.
For students and families, witnessing a Black Belt promotion is incredibly inspiring. It demonstrates that with structure, mentorship and a strong community, long-term development is possible both on and off the mats.
Strengthening the Gracie Barra Oceania Community
Black Belt Day brings together practitioners from across the Oceania region, strengthening bonds between schools and reinforcing the global unity that makes Gracie Barra so special.
If you train at Gracie Barra Frenchs Forest or any Gracie Barra school across Australia, this is an event you will not want to miss.
