Open a Gracie Barra School in Europe | Expansion Opportunities

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is entering a more mature phase of development in Europe, evolving from a niche discipline into a structured and increasingly professionalised sector supported by sustained demand and organised academy networks.

Across the continent, participation continues to grow, alongside the consolidation of formal teaching systems, competition frameworks, and regional coordination structures.

Within this environment, the European organisation led by Victor Estima is advancing a long-term expansion strategy focused on sustainable scale and operational consistency.

Sustained growth in key markets

Portugal remains one of the clearest indicators of this trajectory.

The network has expanded from 11 to over 35 academies since 2022, representing strong double-digit growth over a three-year period.

More broadly, demand across Europe continues to rise faster than local infrastructure in several urban markets, particularly in major metropolitan areas where supply remains limited.

A structured European footprint

The current footprint now exceeds 150 academies across Europe, including approximately 80 schools in the United Kingdom alone.

This scale has enabled the development of a more integrated operational framework designed to support consistency and long-term expansion across regions.

This includes coordinated academy operations, logistics and supply support systems, and a unified European events structure spanning competition and development programmes.

Additional elements include an established continental tournament circuit, annual leadership alignment forums, and regional training camps for both adults and children.

Together, these components form a standardised system designed to support multi-country growth.

Structural imbalance between demand and supply

Despite this progress, several European cities with strong demand for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu still lack local academy presence.

In many cases, demand growth has outpaced the development of structured training infrastructure.

This creates a continued opportunity for expansion in under-served urban centres, particularly for organisations already operating at scale.

Outlook

The current phase of development is defined less by market entry and more by consolidation and structured replication of existing systems.

Sustained growth will depend on operational alignment, leadership development, and the ability to maintain standards across multiple jurisdictions.

The framework is established, the network is active, and demand continues to expand.

Participation opportunity (members only)

Expansion opportunities in Europe are currently open exclusively to Gracie Barra members interested in opening or expanding academies within the network.

This ensures alignment with established operational standards, values, and long-term development strategy.
