  2nd Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Vanessa’s journey began in 2003.  Just four months into training, Jiu-jitsu profoundly impacted her life, leading her to dedicate herself to mastering and sharing the art.  Since joining Gracie Barra in 2012, Vanessa has been instrumental in fostering a community-centered academy alongside her husband, Prof Bryan Waltz.

  An accomplished competitor, Vanessa has secured top podium finishes at prestigious events, including the IBJJF Pan American No-Gi, World No-Gi, and Master World Championships.  Her competitive experience enriches her teaching, providing students with insights into high-level strategy and mental resilience.

  Beyond the mats, Vanessa embraces the role of mother, balancing the demands of parenting with her commitment to Jiu-jitsu.  This duality enhances her empathy and leadership, allowing her to connect deeply with students from all walks of life.  She is passionate about creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and empowered.
