Gracie Barra Burton is focused on providing world class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing training for men, women and children. This is the first Gracie Barra school to be opened the in the State of Michigan by Black Belt instructor, Professor James E. Burchfield. Professor Burchfield has been operating his original martial arts school in Burton, MI for 30 consecutive years. All Gracie Barra schools teach from a time tested curriculum developed by Master Carlos Gracie, and refined over the years through the more than 600 Gracie Barra Franchises around the world. In addition to having trained with many of the world’s current top practitioners, Professor Burchfield has incorporated the most up to date techniques from those practitioners into his advanced curriculum. While we teach you the core foundation that all practitioners will require, we also focus on body type specific techniques so each individual will be able to develop a skill set more suited to their own capabilities. All age levels, from children as young as 3 up to adults of any age, have age specific curriculum to accommodate age specific abilities. You can rest assured that you will be receiving top quality instruction from a proven curriculum.

In addition to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we also offer Muay Thai Kickboxing. As a Black Belt Instructor in Hsing-I Kung Fu, Professor Burchfield has expanded his martial arts study into the realm of Muay Thai Kickboxing. While most schools and gyms offer a kickboxing program, they are largely nothing more than cardio-kickboxing workouts with little technique. We will teach you practical fighting techniques in Muay Thai Kickboxing learned directly from the source. Professor Burchfield and other students travel to Thailand 1-2 times per year to train with professional Muay Thai fighters. Our Muay Thai program is designed to teach real self defense, along with a great cardio workout.

If that wasn’t enough, at Gracie Barra Burton, we bring in multiple world champion practitioners 1-2 times per year for seminars. Romulo Barra, Braulio Estima, Flavio Almeida, Samuel Braga, Otavio Souza, Gordon Ryan, Caio Terra, Lucas Lepri, Bernardo Faria, Xande Ribeiro and Saulo Ribeiro are just some of the instructors that have conducted seminars.
