The Gracie Barra belt system for adults includes a progression of colors and four stripe levels for each color. As the ICP5 describes, belt systems in martial arts have a long history, and we bring that history to our own organization. In January of 2012 the IBJJF launched a new kids’ belt system to address the growing interest in Jiu-Jitsu among younger students.
These fairly recent updates to the belt system for kids are designed to address the limitations that the standard belt system for adults might place on children, such as a progression plan which is not entirely applicable to students who can be as young as 3 years of age.
Using the Belt System with GBK Students
With a belt system specifically designed for student demographics of the GBK student population with 13 belts, children can progress through belt levels with considerations for age as well. To best use this belt system, follow these steps.
