Regulation and Support: Two Sides of the Same Coin

People began to wonder: What happens in a GB school to produce such amazing results?

They wanted to know what was happening within the organization to produce the kinds of results that repeatedly appeared. Athletes were training and competing at high levels. Schools continued to flourish. The organization continued to see growth in the number of schools opening their doors. The evolution of Gracie Barra has been one of growth and progression.

This consistent pattern of success and growth has been noticed by instructors, athletes, potential school owners, and those interested in learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In order for this progression to continue, Master Carlos Gracie Jr. realized that an established set of rules, regulations, and expectations needed to be in place. Before we learn more about how he did this, let’s first look at a definition of success as it applies to our organization.

Success – Success is the compilation of strategies, tasks, and skills that come together in the pursuit of goals. In our organization there are many goals, and many measures of success. Our competitors might have the individual goals of succeeding at certain tournaments. Our students might have goals of moving through our belt system. Instructors could have goals of building their classes and helping students achieve personal fitness goals. School owners could have goals of opening and growing new schools in communities. And as we all come together to work on these goals, we are also continuing to strive towards the common goal – our mission – of Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone.
