So you skipped BJJ for a month or two. Getting back on track can be quite difficult. It’s like going back to the gym after a year of hiatus. You will definitely remember how to escape or pass the guard, defending against any basic submission attempt. But your body won’t. It’s that simple. It’s all about skill and knowledge; what you know and what you can’t do.

Learn to accept your body’s limitations

So you have been a way for quite some time. Chances are, you are your cardio is easily tanked. Do not panic just yet. It’s quite normal for this to happen. Understand that your body may have undergone some changes because of lack of exercise. Going back to the gym regularly will get you back in shape in no time.

Connecting with old friends in the school is always good. Reconnect with those who has the same passion in Jiu-Jitsu. It’s a good thing to get the passion back in you. Passion is the key to drive you back on the mats. Passion is contagious in our art. The excitement being on the mats.

Have fun

Should you take BJJ seriously? Yes. But not too seriously. Do not take out the fun out of anything that you do. Especially in BJJ. If you are having fun, things flow naturally. The weariness seem to just go away when you are having fun. I would like to mention though that as adults, we should not take the fun of martial arts. Notice how kids enjoy putting on their little gis and grappling it out with other kids? I think kids have it all figured out when it comes down to enjoying BJJ.
