GB News: Victories of the week for Gracie Barra

Over the last weekend (16 and 17), the mats at the on-going competitions were more busy than ever. The Pan American for Kids, the Selective Abu Dhabi and Open summer took place and despite the vast difference, all of the participants were a community. We are proud to announce a brilliant performance from Gracie Barra.

pan_kids-300x200On Sunday, our little champions of the future demonstrated their skills. 97 soldiers proudly carried the red shield. Although small in size, their efforts yielded big results: 241 points earned second place for the Gracie Barra team.

Speaking of big stars at GB, André Campos, Rodrigo Fajardo, Victor Estima and Gilmar Oliveira qualified in the World Pro tryouts held in Gramado – RS and cemented their position at the big day in Abu Dhabi.

In Rio de Janeiro, the Open Summer 2014 event was held by the Federation of Jiu-Jitsu in Rio de Janeiro (FJJRIO) at the Yacht Club. The competition took place during the state championships season. As usual, Gracie Barra’s participation resulted in the gain of many victories and medals in various weight divisions.

The first was reserved for the demonstrations of the juvenile category, blue belts: Arian de Melo (17) , Henrique Salgado (16) and John Peter Soeiro (17) earned the highest place. In the master blue belt standouts were Rodrigo Ferrari and Fernando Carmo , both earning first place and a brown belt, Adjal Manoel earned the silver medal. After 10 years without competing, he served as an example of resilience and inspiration to all.

Teachers also took part in the competition. Among them, Diego Almeida ” Tutuba ” black belt, responsible for the GB Reserva after winning 2 fights (one by submission and one by points) won the bronze medal same as Adriano Cleto, brown belt and instructor at GB Flamengo. Among the most experienced, the 3rd degree black belt, Joelson Venancio “Joe”, instructor at GB Rio Matriz, between which classes and training prepared for the competition , earning 2nd place.

IMG_1521-e1392666924159-200x300Thanks to dedication and efforts of our warriors the result of the competition was 3rd place for our team with a total of 129 points. This being the first event of the year the athletes who won 1st and 2nd placed in the rankings last year were awarded with diplomas and trophies by FJJRIO.

Moreover, Jefferson Moura, general coordinator of GB in Rio received from the hands of Master Robson Gracie – President of FJJRIO, the trophy for 3rd place for overall result for the team in 2013.
“I would like to congratulate all who represented our red shield. The trophy for the third place is a good achievement, although it could have been better. Every day we are better than before, moving closer and closer to our goal to be first. Soon we will have a good position. We are going to the next competition more prepared.”said Jefferson Moura.
