Video Lesson – Double Submission From The Mount

“Excellent Jiu-Jitsu artists don’t believe in excellence – only in constant improvement and constant change.”

Whether in training or in tournaments, each Jiu-Jitsu practitioner develops a different fighting style. But there are two lines of thought that are predominant among Jiu-Jitsu competitors or recreational practitioners alike when it comes down to fighting strategy. These two different approaches to fighting are: points versus submission. Normally the fighters who focus in scoring points are more strategic. These type of fighter prefer to score and prioritize opening a good lead on the scoreboard. The group of fighters who focused in submissions are in general more aggressive and can terminate the fight at any given time.

You can not predict the outcome of a Jiu-Jitsu match. You get to ask yourself hard questions like: What if my favorite technique does not work? What if my prefered strategy fail? The right answers to those questions should help you not to plateau in your training and will drive you to keep open mind. In your Jiu-Jitsu journey you should always push yourself to try new things and should be open to consider new strategies outside the ones you are accustomed to use. Hoping to help you expand your knowledge and to give you new tools in the mount position, we went after Professor Philipe Della Monica and asked him to teach us one of his favorite submissions from the mount. Professor Philipe is the head instructor at the Gracie Barra Saddleback School and the IBJJF Chicago Open 2013 champion. The result is in the incredible video lesson below 🙂
