Gracie Barra Fundamentals v2.0
Gracie Barra Soon To Launch the Gracie Barra Fundamentals v2.0!
Adaptation is the key to staying competitive and surviving with the times. This holds true for Gracie Barra as well. We may practice and at the same time appreciate traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but some facets are better off evolving and rolling with the changes.
The fundamentals curriculum is the evolution of a beginner Jiu Jitsu curriculum designed to facilitate the delivery of the instructor and the absorption and retention by the student. - Prof. Ricardo Almeida
Gracie Barra is excited to let every one know that we are consistently keeping up with the fast phase that technological era requires. We are continuously looking for ways in improving our own game. The Gracie Barra Fundamentals v2.0 taken a huge face lift from its predecessors; keeping the top grade, premium level of instruction, employing advanced technology that our students will receive. The effort placed in the creation of the new curriculum is astounding. We are talking about hundreds of man hours in meetings, thousands of opinions and feedback from our black belts, meshing successful techniques and practices into one viable, easy to follow program for every Gracie Barra member to enjoy. Our very own Professors: Ricardo Almeida and Aparecido Bill talk about the old curriculum and the new one.
We were lucky to catch Professors on their free time for them to share thoughts on the up and coming curriculum.
GB.com: Give us your thoughts about the curriculum, professor.
Prof. Ricardo A.: The fundamentals curriculum is the evolution of a beginner Jiu Jitsu curriculum designed to facilitate the delivery of the instructor and the absorption and retention by the student.
GB put together the feedback from over 300 schools around the world into what we believe is the most up to date Brazilian Jiu Jitsu curriculum for beginners out there. We chose the use of technology to facilitate to even more spread and deliver our lessons world wide.
GB.com: Is there anything in the future for the students and members of Gracie Barra?
Prof. Ricardo A.: The project for 3.0 has already begun. When the 2.0 curriculum goes out, it will be mostly a combination the feedback from our instructors with the technical innovation brought forth by the most successful competition team in the history of Jiu Jitsu.
GB.com: What made Gracie Barra decide to tap technology as a way of instructing students?
Prof. Flavio A.: Technology is changing every aspect of Education and training. Because of the internet there are so many different ways to spread knowledge and learning is no longer restricted to the class room. We at Gracie Barra believe learning from a real Jiu Jitsu instructor is a necessary condition in mastering Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. A GB Professor observing student’s progress daily and polishing their skills to make of him or her the best they can be is absolutely necessary. However, we have come to realize we can complement the traditional learning experience with tools that will not only supplement students but help instructors teach a better class. What we envision is each GB student worldwide downloading the app to their smartphones and reviewing the techniques taught in class each week before and after training. If they miss a class they can know what they’ve missed and work with a friend to catch up. That is the miracle of technology. It allows JJ to transcend the walls of our schools to our students every day lives
Notable as well is our partnership with Mobile Black Belt. Aparecido Bill is a contact person for the developers. He speaks of the innovation that our organization is venturing on.
GB.com: Gracie barra continously evolves with the times and rolls with the changes. Tapping technology is one of them. How excited are you to launch this app for all of the students at Gracie Barra?
Aparecido: That’s the whole reason we teamed up with Gracie Barra. We have already begun to develop technology that will help deliver the new media we are producing with GB. It was a great fit for all of us and we’re really excited about our future projects together. Our goal is to create high quality media with GB and make it easily accessible to people all over the world; to help fulfill the message of “Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone”.
GB.com: What challenge did phase in the creatiion of the curriculum?
Aparecido: The Curriculum is really the result of feedback from Gracie Barra Black Belts and students from all over the world. Ricardo Almeida was responsible for developing the curriculum and breaking down all the information and organizing it into a cohesive program. He did an amazing job.
GB.com: What’s the inspiration behind this project?
Aparecido: We put a lot of LOVE in everything we do. I think you’ll see that in the quality of the production. We wanted to make sure we created something that would reflect the style of teaching at the core of the GB philosophy.
GB.com: What will the curriculum cover?
Aparecido: The new Fundamentals Curriculum is designed for the beginner…people just starting their journey in BJJ. These lessons will get you from your white belt to your blue belt. The lessons cover a combination of sport Jiu-Jitsu, self defense as well as MMA techniques. It is a very well thought out program that will benefit the students on many levels.
GB.com: A message to those waiting for the app.
Aparecido: Be Patient. We only work with a few select people and we spend a lot of time making sure the quality of our productions is top notch. We’re not going to release anything until we feel it’s the best product available.
